Ngan-Tillard, D.J.M.

Summary

Dominique Ngan-Tillard is the coordinator of the MSc Geo Engineering for Applied Earth Sciences (AES) students. She is also member of the board of the education committee at AES. She lectures at BSc, MSc and PhD levels, mostly in Engineering Geology and Rock Mechanics. Her current research includes the response of wetland archaeological sites and remains to environmental changes.

Soil testing supported by live observations at multi-scales with the help of modern technologies (X-ray micro-CT-scan, X-ray CT-scan and ESEM). Application to:

  • Cone penetration testing in sands

  • Strength testing of organic clays and peats. 
  • Compaction shear banding in marls
  • Grain identity tracking in element tests

Weakening and softening of soils, rocks and archeologicasl remains

  • Impact of mechanical loading on archeological layers and remains embedded in soft soils

  • Index test for the degradation of carbonate sands during hydraulic transport

Assessing and/or reducing risks related to the engineering properties of clays:

  • Any shrinking/swelling clays in North of the Netherlands?
