Oscar Andrade Castro He holds a degree in Architecture (2009) and Master diploma (2011) from the School of Architecture and Design at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile. Where he currently teaches as an Assistant professor since 2013 together with working, living and studying as a host at the Open City of Amereida; a community of architects, designers, sculptors and poets founded in 1970 under a poetic vision of the South American continent.
He has participated in 9 of the Valparaíso School’s Travesías, journeys made by its students and professors in order to experience the emergence of the South American extension in pure gratuity, and carrying out the construction of 1:1 built projects. He has also been involved in multiple international Exhibitions and Workshops done by the School of Valparaíso and the Open City group in collaboration with AA London (2011), AHO Oslo (2012), EPFL Lausanne & ETHZ Zurich (2013), ULB Brussels, UCL Leuven and CIVA (2015), and Documenta14 (Kassel & Athens 2017).
He is currently part of the Chair of Methods & Analysis at TU Delft where he started his PhD research under professors Avermaete and Havik on 2015; focused on design and building processes developed in experimental architectural experiences related with improvisation techniques, hands-on methods and spur‐of‐the‐moment decision‐making, focusing on the specific case study of the Open City of Amereida. He has been tutoring Master students and Graduation students, as well as organizing construction workshops (Atelier Bow wow 2015 and Valparaiso 2017).
