Topic: The presenters will discuss recent insights from the project Energética 2030, which seeks to define transformation strategies for the Colombian energy sector by 2030, with a focus on the use of Cloud Microservices for the operation of future power systems.

Short bio of the presenters:

Ernesto Pérez Gonzale received the BS (1999), MSc (2002), and Ph.D. (2006) degrees from the National University of Colombia in Electrical Engineering and High Voltage. He was invited as a researcher between 2003 and 2004 at the power system research group from the University of Bologna – Italy, led by prof. Carlo Alberto Nucci, working on lightning-induced voltage subject. He has been involved with the research group PAAS-UN in Colombia since 1998, and he has been leading the group since 2017. He has been at Universidad Nacional de Colombia since 2006, where he is currently a full professor. During 2014-2015, a visiting professor at Virginia Tech Power System Lab focused on power system supervision and protection.

He has been leading a research project within the ENERGETICA2030 program related to the supervision, operation, and protection of power systems. His main interest subjects are lightning phenomena, power system transients, power system operation, and protection. He has more than 40 papers in international journals and conferences dealing with lightning, and power system protection.

Jairo J. Espinosa Oviedo received his electronics engineering degree from the Universidad Distrital de Bogotá and a Master (Cum laude) and a Ph.D. (Magna Cum Laude) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He is CSO of ENERGÉTICA 2030 and Full Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Medellín). His research is oriented to energy transition in the aspects of mobility, carbon capture, microgrids and electric markets. He is recognized for his skills in mathematical modeling, control, signal processing and simulation, knowledge he has applied in medicine, economics, smart cities, electric networks, oil and gas industry, polymer industry. For many years he was R & D manager for the company IPCOS N.V. in Belgium where he made research in advanced process control systems.
