Speeding up the energy transition

In the Netherlands, we are on the verge of a fundamental energy transition. To reduce our CO2 emissions, limit global warming and leave a livable planet for future generations. Day in day out, Delft scientists are working on projects that speed up this process. With the Tech for Energy campaign, Delft University Fund is contributing to this research and to the university's ambition to play a pioneering role in the Netherlands. The first project we support is 24/7 Energy Lab and we ask TU Delft alumni to join us.

24/7 Energy Lab

A local, autonomous and CO2-neutral energy system for the municipal environment

Twenty percent of the demand for energy in the Netherlands comes from the houses and the neighbourhoods in which we all live. If we succeed in making that energy demand CO2 neutral, we will take a major step in the energy transition.

That is why our 24/7 Energy Lab project is developing a local, autonomous and CO2-neutral energy system for the municipal environment. To achieve this, we are capitalizing on the knowledge and innovations of TU Delft and other partners. We combine and test existing and emerging technology in the unique living lab ‘The Green Village’. While doing so, we will also look explicitly at affordability, acceptance and regulations.

For John Schmitz doing nothing simply isn’t an option

Former Dean John Schmitz is one of the initiators of the 24/7 Energy Lab. He is clear about his motivation. “I believe that we should leave a habitable planet for future generations and therefore also for my own children and grandchildren. This project is my way of contributing. To make an impact locally and inspire others to do the same. So that I can say to the next generation: I did what I could.”

Will you help? With your donation to Delft University Fund, you are enabling the development of the 24/7 energy lab. Help us to make the energy transition a reality.

This project is my way of contributing. To make an impact locally and inspire others to do the same. So that I can say to my grandchildren: I did what I could.
