Ask an Alum
The TU Delft alumni community is a worldwide network of over 110,000 Delft engineers with a huge diversity of various backgrounds, expertise and career paths. This makes this community very valuable. Not only for TU Delft (think about connections with the industry, feedback on curriculum, etc.) but also for alumni amongst each other. As they share the same ‘Delft DNA’ alumni can easily connect and are often very willing to help each other out.
Ask an Alum aims to bring alumni together to share (professional) experiences and networks. Whether it is for just one question or a mentoring connection for a longer periode of time. Alumni who are at a crossroad in their career could really benefit from the experiences of other alumni who once were at the same spot. As a mentee, alumni can learn a lot from a sparring partner who has a similar (Delft) background and knows the professional field they are working in.
On the other hand, becoming a mentor in Ask an Alum is also a great opportunity for alumni to give something back to their university, to strengthen coaching and advising skills and to connect to fellow alumni outside of their current working environment. It might also be a good way to connect to your possible future colleague and create exposure for your current employer. We offer support and guidance for mentors via online sessions (hosted by our own Career Counsellors) and mentors can get in touch with each other via a group in the TU Delft for life portal.

Who is Ask an Alum for?
- Alumni who are looking for a sparring partner with whom they can discuss current challenges and plans for their professional future (mentees). This can be for one question or a longer lasting connection.
- Alumni who like to help other alumni by sharing their professional experiences and giving their view on career related questions (mentors).
Alumni can register both as mentee and mentor. They can both ask questions and guide mentees.

- Personal questions (e.g. work-life balance)
- Advancing soft skills (eg. Presentation skills, negotiating, planning, etc)
- Review CV or application
- Practical advice for start-ups
- Internship / Traineeship

How does it work?
Ask an Alum is an online platform that makes it possible to be found by other alumni who are looking for advice.
- All users create an account on www.tudelftforlife.nl.
- After you have activated your account, enter your profile. This is possible via a LinkedIn profile.
- Do you want to make yourself available as a mentor? Then also activate your mentor profile. Enter here for which subjects mentees can approach you and how many mentees you want to guide at the same time.*
- A mentee can then search you using the search filters, after which he or she can send you a mentor request. You can accept or reject this request - accompanied by a text. If you accept this request, then agree with the mentee how further contact will proceed (via e-mail, telephone or face to face).
*Please note that you can only make yourself available as a mentor or mentee at the start of the pilot.
