Marcel van Gent
Marcel van Gent holds MSc and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from the TU Delft. In 1995 he obtained his PhD degree in 1995 on wave interaction with permeable coastal structures. In 1995 he started at Deltares where he became head of the department Coastal Structures & Waves. Since 2020 he joined the TU Delft again as professor of Coastal Structures (part-time).
Marcel van Gent is associate editor of the well-known scientific journal ‘Coastal Engineering’.
His research is focussed on Coastal Structures, with a particular interest in climate adaptation of coastal structures using physical modelling in laboratory facilities, numerical modelling of wave interaction with coastal structures, and machine learning techniques.
Contributions to courses in breakwaters, bed, bank and shore protection (CIE5308 and CIE4310).
