DEWIS Symposium and Award Ceremony 2023

21 December 2023 13:00 till 18:00 - Location: Echo Arena | Add to my calendar

Power of Language

Date       : Thursday December 21, from 13.00  - 18.00 CET
Location: ECHO Arena
All TU Delft employees and students are warmly invited.
The registration deadline is set for December 18th.

We use language to engage in conversations and discussions - words, images, metaphors. These words, images and metaphors can strongly influence the course of a conversation. Language is not a neutral vehicle to convey our message, language is often value-laden.

In this workshop we will explore this use of language through the concept of 'framing'. Hans de Bruijn, Professor of Public Administration at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, will explain what framing is and the impact a frame can have on our conversations and discussions. When you are framed, the art is to re-frame a conversation.

We will analyse a number of videos to better understand framing and re-framing. We will work together with trainer and actor Jet Pagnier and Hans de Bruijn on frames around diversity and inclusion.

Prof.mr.dr. Hans de Bruijn

We look forward to seeing everyone of you and having interactive discussions!
