At 14:00 Dr Maarten Christenhusz, Dutch biologist, natural historian and author, will give a lecture on rare and extinct plants. For his book 'Uitgestorven - Op plantenjacht rond de wereld' (currently only available in Dutch) he travelled the world to discover new and extinct plant species. He discovered 37 new species, eight new genus and three new plant families. Rafael H.A. Govaerts, who is co-author of this book, has been tracing extinct plants since he was a teenager and currently works at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in Londen.

After the lecture Maarten will sign his books and take you on a short walk along the Hortus'ferns.
