The overall objective of the Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology group is to develop novel technologies for the bioproduction of chemicals, fuels, feed, and food from wastes.
For example, we are currently developing a technology that converts CO2 into industrially-relevant chemicals using microorganisms that are able to utilize (renewable) electricity as sole energy source! We have a mutliscale approach, investigating phenomena from micro-meter to meter scales, and from fundamental to applied research.
The aim is to implement these biotechnologies to contribute towards a more sustainable society by transforming the linear use of materials and resources into a circular one where resources are recovered and reused rather than wasted.

After graduating as chemical engineer from the University of Montpellier (France), I obtained my PhD in environmental biotechnology in 2015 from the University of Queensland (Australia), during which I investigated novel technologies for electricity-driven bioconversions. I then completed a 3-year postdoctoral position at Wageningen University, where my main focus revolved around the electricity-driven bioproduction of valuable chemicals from wastes such as carbon dioxide and organic waste streams.
In October 2018, I started my independent career as assistant professor at Delft University of Technology. My group is interested in microbial electrochemical conversions that are relevant to nowadays’ global and societal challenges.
