The main areas of research of the Section Applied Radiation and Isotopes (ARI) are the innovation and optimization of the use of radiation and radioisotopes in the health sciences. The research focuses on innovative approaches for the optimization of radiation and isotopes for medical imaging and therapy. To this end, the Section deals with, e.g., new production pathways and applications of radioisotopes, the use of radionuclides in studies into the behaviour, distribution and (side) effects of elements, (radio)nuclides and nano-materials, and on all aspects of collection, treatment and analysis of the associated samples.
