Dr. Burak Şişman obtained his first bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2006, followed by a second bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2010. He completed his master's education at Istanbul University in 2009. He received his Ph.D. from Istanbul University in 2014. From 2006 to 2014, Dr. Şişman served as a research assistant at Istanbul University, and later held positions as an assistant professor from 2014 to 2020, and as an associate professor from 2020 to 2023. He also taught as a part-time faculty member at Boğaziçi University. Furthermore, he worked as a visiting scholar at the University of Twente between 2021 and 2022.  

His research focuses on human-robot interaction, cognitive robotics, educational robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. He has been involved in numerous projects both as a project manager and a researcher. Dr. Şişman has provided consultancy on robotics education and workshops to various institutions. Additionally, the robotics teams he has advised have achieved multiple first-place and special jury awards in national and international robotics tournaments. He holds seven patents. 

In 2023, Dr. Şişman started as a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft's Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering, Department of Cognitive Robotics, within the Robot Dynamics research group. He is set to provide co-supervision to Ph.D. students under the METATOOL project and actively contribute to the project's development processes.
