Dr.ir. G.J.P. (Geert) Ravenshorst

Profile

After his graduation at TU Eindhoven he has worked for 5 years in practice as an all-round structural engineer at different engineering companys. He designed structures in concrete , steel and timber. After that he worked as a researcher at TNO Building and Construction Research for 7 years. The activities there were two-fold. On the one hand consultancy, consisting of advice on damages in practice and supervision of experiments. On the othter hand larger research projects with a longer time frame about for example wet gluing of timber and strength grading of structural timber.
Since 2007 he is appointed to TU Delft where he combines education with research. In 2015 he obtained a PhD on the subject of species independent strength grading of structural timber, for both softwoods and hardwoods. His education involves timber structures and fire safety design.

RESEARCH

Research in the field of wood and timber structures. This is focused on strength grading of timber, both visual and machine grading. Experimental research is combined with optimalisation of prediction models. Gluing of hardwoods involves research in parameters that influence the gluing of finger joints.
In the field of fire safety design the application of timber in (tall) structures and the consequences under fire situations are investigated.
