Profile

Ian Pierce is a PhD candidate working on developing and interpreting the long term deformation monitoring of immersed tunnels in the Netherlands in conjunction with the Centrum Ondergronds Bouwen (COB). Prior to coming to TU Delft he worked in the geotechnical engineering industry of the United States for two years, working on ground improvement and support of excavation design projects up and down the east coast of the US. He is passionate about the importance of retaining ties between industry and academia, and has a particular interest in soil-structure interaction and long term behavior. 

 

Personal Timeline

2023-present: PhD Candidate at TU Delft studying long term behavior of immersed tunnels.

2021-2023: Project Engineer at GeoStructures, Inc., a ground improvement and support of excavation design-build company headquartered in Virginia, USA.

2019-2021: Completed a MSc in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech focused on modeling the large deformation behavior of the Cadia Tailings Dam failure of 2018. 

2015-2019: Completed a BSc in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech, with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering.
