Broader usage of measurement train data 
On behalf of ProRail and TU Delft Railway Engineering I'm doing a PDEng project of two years, on the assessment of data from measurement trains. The asset that we're interested in is the so-called crossing, which is the part of the turnout where the rails cross through eachother. This is beacuse crossings are subjected to a relatively high rate of wear and fatigue, while the turnout is an important asset in the railway network. 

The main data types are (vehicle) accelerations and geometry scans (measurements of the rail shape). The deliverable of the project is a method to automatically assess incoming measurements and advice the asset managers on short term and long term decisions. This will be achieved by extracting relevant features from the data, finding relevant relations between the features (by using machine learning techniques) and publishing relevant outcomes to relevant parties.
