Profile

My research interests lie in sedimentology and stratigraphy. I use physical experiments, numerical models and field data to study the processes that shape landscapes and stratigraphy, and the rates, magnitudes and timescales on which they take place. I mostly focus on river deltas. Aim is to improve our capacity to evaluate how ancient deltas formed, and predict how future deltas will develop by a combination of geologic, climatic and anthropogenic stressors.

I joined TU Delft as an assistant professor in 2023 after working at the Dutch research council NWO. I studied Earth science / geology at the VU University Amsterdam and the University of Bergen. My PhD (2019) at the University of Liverpool looked into the propagation and stratigraphic preservation of environmental signals in sedimentary systems. A postdoc at Indiana University focused on river delta morphodynamics and human impacts on land loss in the Mississippi delta.
