Study Climate Program strongly advocate for uniting and sharing best practices of student wellbeing initiatives

In the Educator’s December edition Vice Rector Magnificus/Vice President Education Rob Mudde and Program Lead, Stella van der Meulen introduced the Study Climate program (SCP), a TU Delft-wide programme to further enhance student success by focusing on students’ growth and wellbeing. This can include educational discussions on pedagogical and policy, but the central aim is the overall development of all students. Two members of the SCP, Grant Penny and Sjoerd Zoeteman, bring their specific focus to achieving this aim.

Grant is an Online Learning Developer within Teaching and Learning Services (TLS). He has a background in educational technology and online learning. His key focus is finding innovative ways of using technology to enrich teaching and learning – a theme especially relevant as we head further into a world of hybrid and blended education.

Sjoerd is an educational psychologist within TLS and University Teaching Qualfication (UTQ). His main objective is incorporating student wellbeing into education in the broadest sense. This includes considerations such as how education can be adapted to promote student success. As a former lecturer and supervisor at an applied university, he is able to consider student wellbeing from a lecturer perspective and looking at what lecturers can do to educate, motivate, and inspire students.

Within the broader SCP team, Grant and Sjoerd are continually looking to meet with students, lecturers, and other faculty members to learn what is working well, share best-practice, and offer their respective expertise to meet the SCP’s aims.

A key trend that has been identified, is that many great student wellbeing initiatives are occurring in silos. The SCP aims to be a ‘facilitator of synergy’, and Grant and Sjoerd strongly advocate for uniting these silos and growing a culture of sharing best practice across TU Delft.

If you wish to share initiatives you have been working on, seek advice on student wellbeing at TU Delft, and/or would like to discuss related topics, they would like to hear from you.
