Keynote on Open government data and open data ecosystems by Anneke Zuiderwijk

Nieuws - 22 december 2021

On December 21, 2021, Anneke Zuiderwijk was invited to provide a keynote presentation for a Webinar of the Graphic Era University, India. The presentation was entitled “Open Government Data – Towards value creating and sustainable open data ecosystems”.

Open Government Data (OGD) is an essential resource for today’s digital economy. Considerable value can be created by realizing the many potential benefits of openly sharing and re-using government data, including the creation of data-based services and applications, making more informed decisions, improving citizens’ quality of living, increasing government transparency and accountability, and improving public services. However, current open data systems lag behind in their promised value creation and sustainability. In this talk, I will discuss the characteristics of existing open data systems, exemplified by several case studies carried out in different domains and countries by the ODECO project consortium*. Anneke put forward her view on what is needed to develop current open data systems into value creating, sustainable open data ecosystems. She presented a research agenda that discussed the gaps between current open data systems on the one hand and value-creating, sustainable open data ecosystems on the other hand.

*ODECO – Towards a sustainable Open Data ECOsystem (2021-2025) is a Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network initiative. The central aim of the ODECO consortium network is to train the next generation of creative and innovative early stage open data researchers, to unlock their creative and innovative potential to address current and future challenges in the creation of user driven, circular and inclusive open data ecosystem. https://odeco-research.eu/
