There are a lot of talented people in many fields on the campus of the TU Delft, including Sports. Every month, we put one of our elite athletes in the spotlight. This month, the honour goes to ballroom dancer Reynier Burnaby Lautier.

"After a busy period, full of exams and following internships, we are now able to focus on the competitions we will be participating in the coming weeks. The first major competition where we will participate is Freedom to Dance in London, a premiere competition for the World Championships at the end of May.”

“In preparation to this competition, we will spent a number of days in London. We are going to follow a training camp, with lectures that will be given by former world champions and contest simulations under the guidance of these trainers.”

“At the competition the world's best couples will participate, from all over the world. Representatives from among others Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia, China, Taiwan, Ukraine, Poland, Russia and of course The Netherlands use this competition as a final rehearsal opportunity towards the biggest tournament of the year, the Blackpool Dance Festival. This is the contest that the whole dance world works throughout the year. Blackpool has become an icon in the dance world.”

“In de period between now and Blackpool, we will also participate at a Dutch Championship. However, our focus is already on the upcoming international competitions. The Dutch Championship seems a trifle comparing to the dance level during the Freedom of Dance.”

“After this competition we will spent a couple more days in London to train with our English trainers. Then we must quickly go back to Holland to join our colleges at the TU Delft. We'll keep you informed about the progress of the major competitions of the next two months!”
