Winning design new staircase BK Expo

News - 09 January 2019 - Communication BK

The winning design for a new stair case of the BK Expo physically and visually connects the exhibition space with the surrounding spaces. The design by Veerle Alkemade and Sanne Sophie Hoogkamer is the winning design of the Stylos Scala design competition.

On 14 June 2018, three winning teams of 14 contributions were announced to further develop their designs for a new staircase in the BK Expo. On 29 November 2019, the remaining two teams pitched their ideas to the BK Expo committee, to the faculty, and to Stylos.

The winning design by students Veerle Alkemade and Sanne Sophie Hoogkamer serves the room and maintains a lot of exhibition space. The design connects well to the existing interior of BK City in general and to the BK Expo in particular. The newly designed entrance from the Oostserre towards the BK Expo not only physically connects the two rooms, but also creates a new stage for events.

The runner-up, designed by students Pieter Clemens, Romee van Es, and Emie Klein Holkenborg, is a large architectonic statement, creating an interesting new type of space within the BK Expo. The routing would allow for new types of exhibitions.
