Nr. 1 in Europe! TU Delft AE ranked 8th in Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021

News - 15 July 2021

Recently the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021 was published. In the ranking for the subject ‘Aerospace Engineering’ TU Delft was ranked 8th, rising up from position 9 last year. This position makes the faculty the highest ranking European university and the second highest ranked faculty amongst all universities outside of China. The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor is the only non-Chinese aerospace university ranked higher on place 6.

Nr. 1 in Europe
Dean Henri Werij is very proud of this ranking position: “The Top-15 in this ranking is completely dominated by China and the USA, with TU Delft being the only European university in this top league. We know that it not only takes to be one of the largest (if not the largest) European Faculties in this field, but most of all the excellence and dedication of my colleagues and their seamless collaboration with colleagues within and outside of our university. I also would like to mention the spirit and motivation of our students, who come from all over the world to take part in one of the most demanding study programmes we offer.”

From September 20 new vacancies for academic staff
In September the faculty will kick off a massive hiring campaign. Werij: “At the moment we employ 107 Professors (Full, Associate and Assistant Professors). We will add another 20 positions to this, involving nearly all research fields we are active in, both related to aviation and space.” In addition, the faculty also employs several tens of postdocs, researchers and close to 300 PhD candidates.
