Product Development Lab

The Product Development Lab - or PD Lab - was itself a research project testing bio-based building, digital manufacturing and circularity. Now the lab stands as a platform for testing a wide range of innovative solutions in the built environment. In consultation with the Green Village, the lab is open to different audiences, such as students, researchers and externals. Remodelling is also possible after consultation.

Within its limited volume, the lab offers the possibility of testing installations, facades, sunscreens or even acoustic research. In principle, parts of the building can be adapted for various experiments. The PD Lab can also be booked as a meeting room at the Green Village, offering the possibility of meetings with test users.

The complete structure of the building was made to size by a milling machine, making the parts fit together like Lego bricks. Other elements, like wall and floor elements, are prefabricated and easily replaceable. Thanks to the use of wood and sustainably produced EcoBoard, the PD Lab is for the most part bio-based. The exception is the aluminium cladding, which can be recycled. The wall and floor elements, as well as the entire façade, can be reused in other buildings.
