Symposium: Design for uncertainty | We don’t design alone

The international symposium aims to explore urban landscape design processes in socio-ecological uncertain times. Uncertainty forces us to design projects prepared for change, thus, more flexible, transformable, and resilient. To achieve this, we should inform projects from multiple visions, needs and knowledge. We do not design alone: we collaborate with multiple actors and disciplines in design processes.

We seek to explore governance and interdisciplinary design alternatives for uncertainty and collaboration, and to discuss the challenges of climate change adaptation design in extreme contexts such as the Atacama Desert in Chile.

Three premises will guide the conversation:

  1. Design for uncertainty must be socially and ecologically flexible and resilient.
  2. The design process must summon multiple knowledge, visions and realities for context-specificity.
  3. We do not design alone, but with diverse actors.
