Event details

Aerospace Engineering alumni Louis Souverein and Faris Ustamujic will open the doors for us at the joint Airbus/ArianeGroup Site in Ottobrunn, München.

ArianeGroup and Airbus Defence and Space GmbH
ArianeGroup springs from the shared ambition of Airbus and Safran to take the European space industry to the highest possible level. It is a world leader in civil and military launch systems and space applications. Airbus is a global pioneer in the aerospace industry, operating in the commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space sectors. As one of the countries that was key to the creation of Airbus, Germany has a rich history of aircraft design and construction and is home to some of Airbus’ largest and most important operations. Working across 27 sites, employees represent close to half of the country’s entire aerospace workforce.  In Taufkirchen near Munich (better known as Ottobrunn), Airbus Defence and Space GmbH has its HQ. The site is the place where MBB (Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm GmbH) reached its peak development in various industrial fields employing around 40,000 employees in 1989. Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is a proud successor and continues to shape the future of aerospace by pursuing development such as the Spacecraft Manufacturing with Optical Systems and Solar Array development and integration, electrical propulsion test facility, radio antenna test facility, just to mention a few. Furthermore Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is supporting the LUDWIG BÖLKOW CAMPUS, which is an international research and innovation hub for aerospace and security technologies based on trend-setting innovations, a novel intellectual approach and promotion of young talent in the sciences.

Event
You will get an insight into what our alumni do at ArianeGroup and Airbus, be updated on the Flying vision of TU Delft, Dr. Alessandra Menicucci, (ass. prof. Space Systems Engineering TU Delft) will give a presentation on the latest educational and Space department innovations. Then you will be guided through the facilities and of course we will end this programme with food, drinks and networking. Femke Verdegaal and Victor Rijkaart (business connect team TU Delft) will also be present and looking forward to seeking collaboration opportunities with you.

In short: it will be an excellent moment to catch up with your fellow TU Delft alumni, network and broaden your horizon.

Bio Dr. Alessandra Menicucci

Dr. Alessandra Menicucci is a tenured Assistant Professor in the Space System Engineering chair of the Delft University of Technology. She holds a PhD in Physics (2004) from the University of Rome Tor Vergata and a Laurea in experimental physics from University of Rome La Sapienza (2000). Dr. Menicucci research interests are focused in the development of miniaturized radiation sensors which can be distributed on-board of micro-satellites and on the radiation tolerance assurance of COTS components. From 2006 to 2015 she worked at the European Space Agency in the space environment and effects section where she was leading several radiation monitor developments. She was also supporting most of the ESA missions under development at that time for what concerns space environment and effects analysis.

She is the project manager of the Delfi Space Program which aims to realize education and research by the end-to-end engineering of space missions of high relevance and impact using very small satellites. Previous missions were the Cubesats Delfi-C3 (2008) and Delfi-n3xt (2013) and the picosatellite Delfi-PQ which was launched in January 2022.

Dr. Menicucci is author of more than 40 refereed papers in journals and conferences and she supervises several Msc and PhD students. She is the responsible of the Msc course “Space Embedded Systems”. She is co-investigator of different national and international projects in the field of radiation hardness assurance of miniaturized systems.
