17 November 2023 20:00 till 22:00 - By: Communication | Add to my calendar

Whether you want to improve the physical shape you are in or build your basis for other martial arts, or you are just curious about wrestling, this workshop will be fun and useful for you! The workshop is given by the Dutch Champion and TU student Leendert Starink.

Wrestling is one of the few sports that were present at the original Olympic games in ancient Greece. It is practiced all around the world and is immensely popular in Russia, India, Iran and the United-States. With the rise of popularity of MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other martial arts, more people realize that wrestling lies at the basis of many martial arts.

This workshop will provide an introduction to the world of Olympic free style wrestling.

Olympic wrestling revolves around trying to pin your opponent: you win when both of your opponent's shoulders are pinned to the mat. To achieve this, wrestling demands a unique combination of skills. Apart from good technique, it is important to be strong, flexible, agile, explosive and have good stamina. A training session therefore consists of a diverse variety of drills and exercises.

Every training starts with an elaborate warming up. In this warming up we will pay attention to strength and conditioning drills, but also to acrobatics and gymnastics. After the warming up we will continue by performing wrestling drills and practicing specific moves.

Your newly learned skills can be tested and practiced at the end of the training with a few rounds of sparring.

At the end of the training, we are sure you’ll have learned something about Olympic free-style wrestling!
