Eric Verschuur provided support to the Dutch tv-program "De Proefkeuken". They have visited the anechoic chamber for their program on how to build a speaker.

A recently accepted paper in Nano Letters by ImPhys researchers Robert Moerland, Gerward Weppelman, Marijke Scotuzzi, and Jacob Hoogenboom was mentioned in the news forum of tech-website Tweakers. In the publication our ImPhys colleagues use pulsed beams of electrons instead of photons to probe the light-matter coupling inside nanoscale lasers.

Better insight into white matter (WM) alterations after stroke onset could help to understand the underlying recovery mechanisms and improve future interventions. MR diffusion imaging enables to assess such changes. The goal was to investigate the relation of WM diffusion characteristics derived from diffusion models of increasing complexity with the motor function of the upper limb. Moreover, the researchers aimed to evaluate the variation of such characteristics across different WM structures of chronic stroke patients in comparison to healthy subjects.

On April 23 Sander started his BSc project on MRI Imaging. His supervisor is Frans Vos.

Taylor will work on single molecule localisation microscope and build a new setup for imaging. We envision that with this setup he can localise single molecules with less light than the current standard. He will work together with PhD student Ramus Thorsen and as supervisors Sjoerd Stallinga and Bernd Rieger.

Student Ruben van Oosterhoudt from the the Hague University of Applied Sciences started his internship titled: “From 2D to 3D imaging with holography” His supervisors are Jeroen Kalkman and Jos van Rooij.

TUD applied physics student Wahhe Ajroemjan started with his bachelor end project titled “Dynamic range enhanced optical coherence projection tomography” His supervisors are Jeroen Kalkman and Jelle van der Horst.

Het Nationaal Regieorgaan Onderwijsonderzoek (NRO) stelt een bedrag van €100.000 beschikbaar voor het nieuwe vak Design Engineering voor Fysici. Het NRO honoreerde een aanvraag van Prof. Chris Kleijn, Dr. Rolf Hut (CitG/TNW), Dr. Koen van Dongen (TNW) en Prof. Marc de Vries (TNW) voor een Comenius Senior Fellowship.

De Nederlandse organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (NWO) kent ruim 17 miljoen subsidie toe aan het verder ontwikkelen van een Nederlands netwerk voor elektronenmicroscopie (NEMI). Het netwerk bestaat uit vijf UMC’s en acht universiteiten, waaronder de TU Delft, met Utrecht als coördinator. Met het subsidiebedrag kunnen de wetenschappers verschillende technieken op het gebied van elektronenmicroscopie bundelen en zo meer te weten komen over de samenstelling en samenhang van de biologische en materiële microwereld.
