M-Tunnel

The M-tunnel is a model tunnel of the Low turbulence tunnel facility and is rather unique, since it can be used as both an open jet or a closed wind tunnel. Depending on whether it is used as an open tunnel or closed tunnel, the maximum velocity is 35 m/s or 50 m/s respectively. The test section of the tunnel is 0.4m x 0.4m square and due to the large contraction ratio the turbulence level of the flow in the test section is low.

Typical research topics

  • Research on drag reduction techniques in turbulent boundary layers over a flat plates
  • Basic wind engineering research on small scale buildings
  • Education: measurement of drag forces on bluff bodies and streamlined bodies of revolution
