What you will learn

MBE educates transition processes and management in the built environment.

Scales
Students learn to work on several scales. These include individual buildings, housing stock, corporate real estate and urban areas. Creating a sustainable built environment requires professionals who understand and can manage complex and dynamic processes. The MBE educational program focuses on integrating design, managerial and societal aspects into development processes.

Courses and projects
Courses and projects include (but are not limited to): project management, design management, quality management, cost management, not-for-profit management, portfolio management, process management, project re-design, finance, law and building informatics.

Design basis
The Management in the Built Environment program distinguishes itself from others by being a management MSc firmly rooted in a design approach. Many challenges face the built environment.  Among them are mitigating the climate change and developing a circular economy. Such challenges require open-minded innovative minds skilled in applied knowledge and collaborative leadership. The Management in the Built Environment program challenges you to become a reflective academic professional who creates and manages the built environment.

For whom?
MSc track Management in the Built Environment is meant for students who obtained a BSc from a Dutch university and for Dutch Hbo students who finished a pre-master. Furthermore, the program is especially attractive to international students, in particular architects seeking deepening of understanding in management skills and theories. The program has international relevance because the issues which are treated are not bound to national limits.

Management in the Built Environment has a very active community of students: BOSS. Many activities are organised, including debates, company visits and study trips (national and international).

After graduation
A MBE graduate will make a difference because of their knowledge and skills in combining disciplines.

Once you have graduated from our MSc track, you will be qualified to fulfil a wide range of roles with all parties involved in the whole building process. Examples are:  executive at a development company, large building company or architectural firm, a manager at a construction project management office or as a policy official at a public housing organisation.
