Dr. Ana Somoza-Tornos

Assistant Professor

Ana Somoza-Tornos works on developing Process Systems Engineering tools to address the closure of carbon cycles in the chemical industry via the introduction of carbon capture and utilization and chemical recycling technologies. Her areas of expertise include process modeling and design, mathematical optimization, techno-economic assessment, life cycle assessment and circular economy.

Academic background

Ana Somoza-Tornos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology. She earned her MSc in Chemical Process Engineering in 2016 and PhD in Process Systems Engineering in 2020, both from Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). Her PhD thesis focused on the development of decision-making tools for the implementation of circular economy principles in process industries, with an aim to close the life cycle of plastics through chemical recycling. During her Postdoctoral appointment in 2020-2022 at the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (University of Colorado Boulder), she worked on the modeling and assessment of carbon capture and utilization processes.

Ana Somoza-Tornos is part of the Process Systems Engineering section (PSE).
