i2Mon

The overall objective of i2MON is to develop an integrated monitoring service for identification and assessment of ground and slope movements related to coal mining. In the TU Delft contribution to i2Mon, we investigate the use of data assimilation in the assessment of slope stability for the slope of a former open-pit lignite mine that is being transformed to a lake. The resulting system includes innovative monitoring tools including terrestrial laser and radar technology as well as space- and airborne remote sensing. Extensive predictive modelling will be directly integrated with the monitoring information to understand the physical movement processes and in minimize impact. Finally merged into an integrated web-based system the service will substantially improve monitoring quality and costs and deliver the mining industry a key evaluation and decision making instrument.
