Dr. Celik, S
Sine Celik is Assistant Professor of Network-driven Systemic Change at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. Her research focuses on the role of social dynamics when designing for and with complex societal challenges.
Sine's work operates at the intersection of systems thinking, network theory and social design. She experiments with various system-oriented design frameworks and network analysis methodologies to unravel how design(ers) can set the conditions for impactful, empowering relationships that enable efficient collaborations. For this purpose, she investigates interdependent networks that emerge out of multilayered social relationships between individuals, groups or entities to trace various mechanisms that play a role in achieving long-term systemic change.
Sine continuously collaborates with companies and (governmental) organisations to tackle complex societal challenges through student projects or research initiatives. She works with graduation students and PhD candidates that are interested in systemic design or social networks and she is also one of the coordinators of the Bachelor Final Project at IDE.
Academic Background
Sine has an academic background that combines multiple design disciplines. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Architecture, where she developed an interest in sustainable transitions and systemic design. Following upon this interest, she earned her PhD degree at the Sustainable Design Engineering department of Faculty of IDE at TU Delft with a thesis on the development of innovation ecosystems from a network-perspective. After her PhD, she joined Aalto University Design Factory in Finland for her postdoctoral studies, where she continued exploring creative ecosystems and design cultures. In 2020 she re-joined the Faculty of IDE as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Design, Organisation and Strategy.
