Soyeon Kim is a Human-Machine Interaction/User Experience Design professional who specialises in autonomous systems, ranging from early-stage research to hands-on production.
She holds a master's degree in Industrial Engineering from KAIST, South Korea. During her studies, she developed a particular interest in human-computer interaction and cognitive ergonomics. Her master's thesis focused on predicting the ease of exploratory UI usage based on informational complexity.
Following her studies, she worked at Hyundai/Kia Motor as a research engineer in the Department of User Experience Strategy and Development, Automotive R&D Division. In this role, she played a key role in designing driver-centered vehicle UI/UX, actively contributing to the entire process from the concept stage to mass production.
In 2020, Soyeon embarked on her PhD journey at TU Delft, focusing on designing human-machine interaction in automated vehicles as part of the EU-funded H2020 HADRIAN project. Her research is centered around designing user interfaces that foster trustworthy collaboration in automated vehicles. She has employed various methods, including driving simulators, wizard of Oz on-road studies, surveys, and interviews. She possesses strong skills in conducting both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
