Dr. Kraal, J.J.
I joined the ID group as Assistant Professor (tenure track) in March 2019, and focus my research on designing lifestyle and healthcare interventions for the prevention of disease. I am involved in the Pride and Prejudice project, working together with colleagues from TU Eindhoven, TU Twente and Wageningen University on chronic disease prevention using real-time monitoring and context-aware intervention design.
Before joining the ID group, I completed my PhD at the Department of Medical Informatics, University of Amsterdam, where I designed, implemented and evaluated a novel home-based cardiac rehabilitation intervention, using wearable sensors and telemonitoring coaching. The research was performed in collaboration with the department of Cardiology at Máxima Medical Center, Eindhoven/Veldhoven and Philips Research. After my PhD, I continued my work at Máxima Medical Center at the department Flow, Center for Prevention, Telemedicine and Rehabilitation, as senior project-leader/post doc. My work focused on the development of digital interventions to promote and maintain an active lifestyle in patients with a chronic disease. Among others, I was involved in the design and implementation of a remote patient management program for patients with heart failure and COPD, and the validation of wearable sensors for cardiac patients.
