Alexander Nieuwborg  is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering exploring Design towards Pandemic Antifragility in Multimodal Transport Hub. His PhD focuses on transforming multimodal transport hubs in dealing with public health disruptions. The research lies on the intersection of health and mobility while applying systemic design methodologies.

Academic Background

Alexander obtained a MSc in Product Development at the University of Antwerp. For his thesis he developed a patented at-home blood collection kit for HIV-testing and a supporting service in collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine. Afterwards, he joined the advanced master in Space Studies at the Catholic University of Leuven and Ghent University. During this master he conducted research regarding a future lunar outpost in collaboration with the Belgian Nuclear Research Center. Finally, he worked at bpost’s technology and automation team and did research regarding future parcel delivery strategies including new vehicles and robotics.
