Regardless of the style or genre, the drummer is often the engine of the band; they determine the rhythm and tempo of the music. Until the early 20th century, all the rhythmic instruments were still played separately by several percussionists. The gradual merging of the various components into a single drumkit occurred mainly out of practical and economic considerations. The drummer needs to use both arms and legs to be able to play all the components of the drumkit. So, it goes without saying that you need to have good coordination!

At X, you have the opportunity to follow a private course Drumming. Anyone can sign up for this course, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced drummer. These private lessons give you the chance to learn at your own pace and set your own challenges. Perhaps you want to work on your technique, improve your note-reading skills, learn how to play at a higher tempo and/or improve your creativity? Or maybe you want to focus on playing accents and rhythms or delve into a specific genre of music, such as jazz, Latin, funk or metal? The content of the course is completely adapted to your level and learning objectives.

Teachers

Jean-Clair de Ruwe

Jean-Clair de Ruwe's passion for drumming started at an early age. In 1998, at the age of 16, he was admitted to the young talent class of the Utrecht Conservatoire, where he graduated cum laude in 2004. For years, he played at various stages, festivals, clubs and theatres in the Netherlands and abroad. The need to develop further brought him to the Big Apple twice (2011 and 2016), where he gained a lot of inspiration and took lessons from masters Rodney Green and Kenny Washington, among others. Jean-Clair has also been a drumming teacher at the Utrecht Centre for the Arts for eight years. At the moment he enjoys giving private lessons in his own studio in The Hague.
