Technology for life is the motto of the TU Delft’s 175th anniversary. To celebrate this, 175 innovative research projects from all over the university have been highlighted by creating the biggest science expo of Europe.

Wednesday, May 31st, the new Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory for Advanced Imaging Research (VLLAIR) has been officially opened in wing D of the TN building.

Dementie vaststellen lang voordat een patiënt klachten heeft. Voor nieuwe software die daaraan hopelijk bijdraagt, kregen Meike Vernooij en Wiro Niessen (ImPhys) deze week de Anthony Fokker-prijs, een van de drie Nederlandse Data Science Prijzen.

Jorne works on “Coherent optical scattering from flow”. In this project they will study if scattering of coherent light from fluids can be used for diagnostic purposes.

Zhe received the Excellent Oral Presentation Ward with his presentation: “One-dimensional searches for finding new lens design solutions efficiently”.

On June 14th, Jeroen Kalkman will give an presentation about “High resolution 3D zebrafish imaging with optical projection tomography” at the Photonics Event.

On May 29th Romain Meunier from Institut d'Optique started his internship on “Focus spot shaping”. His supervisor is Paul Urbach.

This workshop will first address the latest state-of-the-art approaches to laser-based distance, followed by in-depth topics on instrumental and environmental limitations, with the overall goal to lay a foundation for pushing this limits to the next level. It will take place at the Lorentz Center@Oort in Leiden. Dr. Nandini Bhattacharya is one of the four organizers.

Ulas Taskin, who is from Turkey, joined our group as PhD on 1 February. He did his MSc in Istanbul Technical University working on ‘Inverse Scattering Problem of Microwave Imaging’. He started his PhD project on ‘Full-Waveform Acoustic Inversion for Breast Cancer Detection’. He will work on developing inversion methods and test them with synthetic data first, and experimental data later on. His supervisor is Koen W.A. van Dongen.
