Rongier, G.
Profile
I am a numerical geologist working at the intersection of geoscience and computer science, and I have been an Assistant Professor at TU Delft since July 2021.
I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Lorraine in France and the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland, which focused on analyzing and modeling the connectivity of sedimentary channels. After receiving my Ph.D., I went to the US as a postdoc at MIT, then to Australia as a postdoc at CSIRO, where I explored using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to support decision making in geoscience.
Research
My research interests focus on better characterizing geological structures and processes based on partial information. They involve a mix of geology, physics, statistics, machine learning, and programming to tackle three main questions:
• How are geological processes recorded in the subsurface?
• How to better predict that subsurface record?
• How does that record impact subsurface properties?
