Interactive Intelligence (II) researchers Dr. Pradeep K. Murukannaiah and Prof. dr. Catholijn M. Jonker, along with their collaborators Dr. Nirav Ajmeri and Prof. Munindar P. Singh from NC State University, win the Best Blue Sky Paper award at the Nineteenth International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS 20) for their paper titled “New Foundations of Ethical Multiagent Systems.”

In their paper, Murukannaiah et al. formulate ethics as a multiagent concern---an amalgam of (1) one party’s concern for another and (2) a notion of justice. They develop new foundations for ethics in AI, adopting a sociotechnical stance in which agents (as technical entities) help autonomous social entities or principals (people and organizations).

AAMAS is the leading scientific conference for research in autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. The Blue Sky special track at AAMAS emphasizes on visionary ideas, long-term challenges, new research opportunities and controversial debate. The Blue Sky award at AAMAS 20 is sponsored by the Computing Community Consortium (CCC).
