Designing ChatGPT-powered interactions to support information sharing within a community

Members of a community will have a lot in common, whether it’s a common hobby, neighborhood, or workplace. Information can be shared on forums, information boards, and social media but it can be challenging to find relevant information when you need it. Furthermore, many community members never post anything, yet they still possess valuable information. This project aims to investigate how a chatbot typically only used for retrieving information could also be used to collect information from the community. For example, how a chatbot developed for parents in disadvantaged communities can be used to share practical information between parents or from services such as food banks. One of the key challenges will be how to motivate users to share information. This project will involve user research, prototyping (aspects of) a ChatGPT-powered community chatbot system, and user testing. It will build on an existing chatbot built for the scenario mentioned above.
