Prof. dr. ir. Bozzon, A.

Alessandro Bozzon is Professor of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence with the Department of Sustainable Design Engineering of the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE); and a part-time professor with the Department of Software Technology of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS) of Delft University of Technology.
As of November 2020, he serves as Head of the Department of Sustainable Design Engineering.

He is the principal investigator of the Social Glass research programme. He is Principal Investigator of Urban Data and Intelligence at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions. He is a member of the Delft Data Science and the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus BOLD (Big, Open and Linked Data) Cities initiatives.

Academic Background

His research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction, human computation, user modelling, and machine learning. By investigating the relationship between the science and practice of design, and the digital technology that fuels intelligent products, services, and systems, Alessandro is interested in developing methods and tools that support the design, development, control, and operation of AI-enabled systems that are well-situated around actual human characteristics, values, intentions, and behaviours, rather than as we want or assume them to be.

Alessandro has published more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed international journals (e.g. VLDBJ, ACM TWEB, IEEE IC, IEEE Access) and conferences (e.g. CHI, CSCW, HCOMP, WWW/TheWebConference, AAAI, IJCAI, RecSys, ESWC, ISWC)). In 2017 he received the IBM Faculty Award for his work on Enterprise Crowd Computing. He currently serves as a member of the steering committee of the International Conference of Web Engineering (ICWE) conference series, and as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Web Engineering (JWE). He regularly serves as Program Chair or Area Chair for major international conferences.

Alessandro obtained his PhD from Politecnico di Milano in 2009, with a thesis focused on model-driven approaches for the design, development and automatic code generation of Search-Based Applications. He joined TU Delft in 2013, in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, where he worked as an Associate Professor in Crowd Computing until joining the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.
