MSc. Milias, V.

Vasileios Milias is a PhD candidate at the Department of Sustainable Design Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.

Academic Background

My interest lies in developing tools to inform the design of sustainable, equitable and healthy living environments. When faced with the complex issue of designing interventions to promote people’s health an integral part of the “how” question is the “where”. Where are interventions needed? Why are they needed there? What are the characteristics that made one neighbourhood more successful regarding its residents’ mental health than another? Would the same characteristics have the same impact in a different neighbourhood? To provide answers to such questions you first need to be able to measure, characterize and assess the existing living environments, to incorporate in the process tools that enable you to be well-informed about the existing characteristics of the environment you design for.

As a researcher at the Delft University of Technology, I aim to develop such tools and focus on human-centred approaches towards analyzing activity patterns in the context of mental health. My PhD position is funded by the Horizon 2020 project named 'Equal-Life: Early environmental quality and life-course mental health effects'.
