MSc. Peng, Z.
Zhuochao Peng is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. His topics of interest include design for human experience and subjective well-being. His doctoral research focuses on integrating mood into the user experience (UX) discipline.
Zhuochao holds a master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering from Hunan University, China. During his master's studies (2018 – 2021), Zhuochao sharpened his practical skills in industrial product design and development, engaged in human-computer interaction studies, and found his passion for experience-driven design research.
In September 2021, Zhuochao joined the Delft Institution of Positive Design (DIOPD) as a PhD researcher under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Pieter Desmet and Dr. Haian Xue. In his PhD project ‘Mood in UX Design,’ Zhuochao investigates the distinctive place of user mood (differing from that of user emotion) in the domain of UX design. He intends to develop tools that support UX professionals in understanding the phenomenon of user mood, recognizing users’ diverse and nuanced mood experiences, and considering users’ moods in a UX design process. The outputs of Zhuochao’s PhD project are expected to (1) contribute to a well-defined research area of mood-focused design and (2) offer new opportunities for design activities that aim to benefit human health and well-being.
