Finalists in 2022 edX Prize

The online course Global Housing Design by TU Delft professor Dick van Gameren is one of the top 10 finalists in this annual prize for exceptional contributions in online teaching and learning.

Van Gameren and his course team – Nelson Amorin Mota, Frederique van Andel and Rohan Varma – are passionate about improving the quality of life of people across the globe by effecting positive changes in the built environment. They translated their commitment into an inspirational course that empowers thousands worldwide to recognise the challenges and opportunities of designing and building adequate housing for a more sustainable future. Their MOOC is a fully experiential journey.

New lenses for a more sustainable built environment

By bringing theoretical concepts to life in an authentic, relatable and applicable manner through a wealth of real life cases, it takes participants through an immersive experience to rediscover their own neighbourhoods – and to assess and re-think these through new lenses, taking into account critically correlated social, economic and environmental factors.

Additionally, to help more people across the world access information on the correlation of design aspects and real scenarios, the course team built an open, vast and unique visual repository of housing developments across the globe – including valuable insights from the not-often cited Global South.

Congratulations on being shortlisted for this prestigious prize – an apt recognition of the course team’s continuous efforts, dedication and advocacy to realise a more sustainable built environment for current and future generations.

The Global Housing Design course is part of the portfolio offering by the TU Delft Extension School for Continuing Education. Visit the course page for more information.
