Dr. A.A. (Alfredo) Nunez Vicencio
Alfredo Núñez is an Assistant Professor in the field of Data-based Maintenance for Railway Infrastructure at Department of Engineering Structures, Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. He received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Chile, Santiago, Chile, in 2010. He was a postdoctoral researcher with the Delft Center for Systems and Control. He is a Senior Member of IEEE since 2014. He is the author/coauthor of over a hundred international journal papers and international conference papers. He is in the Editorial Board of the journals IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Applied Soft Computing. His current research interests include railway infrastructures, engineering structures, intelligent conditioning monitoring and maintenance, computational intelligence, big data, risk analysis, and optimization.
From the position "data-based maintenance for railway infrastructure", I work in the development of new data-based methodologies tailored to solve railway infrastructure maintenance problems. In order to improve the performance of railway systems, the data-based methodologies will indicate the where, when and how maintenance actions should be performed. The best time for repairing a component must be decided keeping a good balance between maintenance costs, and general effects of the maintenance operation in the railway performance.
Regarding the fundamental component, I work on general aspects of health condition monitoring and maintenance decision support systems, with methodologies coming from computational intelligence, soft computing, machine learning, Big Data analytics, together with different non-centralized and centralized model predictive control approaches.
