Jeroen Langeveld successfully defended his PhD thesis ‘Interactions within wastewater systems’ in 2004. At Royal HaskoningDHV (2004-2014), he had held several positions, from Consultant Wastewater Systems to Leading Profesional Urban Water. The main drive in his carrier is to further develop and apply knowledge in the field of Urban Water, with urban drainage being the focal point for activities such as optimisation studies, monitoring and modelling and (applied) research. In 2014 he founded the company ‘Partners4UrbanWater’, where he is mainly involved in (applied) research projects, such as SARS-CoV-2 monitoring in sewage. Since September 2010, he holds the part time (0,4 fte) positions of Associate professor Urban Drainage at TU Delft and director of the Urban Drainage Research program. The research program covers four themes: asset management, operational management, system dynamics and new sanitation concepts.. He is a very active member of the scientific community, exemplified by his positions as chair of the IWA/IAHR JCUD (2017-2021), chair of WG Sewer Processes and Networks (2016-2019), chair of SPN07 conference in 2016 and ICUD2024. His research projects, covering the broad field of urban drainage and linkages to many related fields such as urban flooding, asset management, public health, ecology, modelling and monitoring, contributed both to progress the scientific state of the art in the field of urban drainage and to facilitate the uptake of new knowledge by the Dutch urban drainage sector.
