Salt marshes are highly productive ecosystems that provide valuable functions. One of the challenges facing salt marshes is accelerated sea-level rise (SLR). The ability of salt marshes to keep pace with SLR largely depends on vertical accretion rates. This implies a need for sufficient sediment that can be transported towards the marsh. Saltmarsh creeks, which are the channels that dissect salt marshes, actively facilitate water and sediment. However, their role in sediment delivery is not always straightforward.

Jianwei's PhD research focuses on investigating the role of saltmarsh creeks in sediment transport. This study is part of the Coping with Deltas in Transition project within the framework of the Programme Strategic Scientific Alliances between China and the Netherlands.
