I have a hydrogeological background from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) where I did a master in Hydrology and bachelor in Earth Sciences. Following my studies, I started working at an engineering company in the field of urban (ground)water management. After this I worked at RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) within the department of agriculture and groundwater. Here I focussed on the validation and analysis of groundwater quality data related to public drinking water and the Water Framework Directive (WFD/KRW). In September 2021 I started my PhD at TU Delft on environmental hydrogeology.

My PhD research is part of the SEALINK project under the supervision of Dr. Boris van Breukelen and Dr. Victor Bense (WUR). SEALINK is an interdisciplinary project where terrestrial processes and pollution are linked to nearshore coral reef growth for the Dutch Caribbean. Work package 1 deals with water and pollutant fluxes from land to sea and is carried out in close collaboration with Titus Kruijssen (PhD candidate WUR), who focusses on the physical hydrogeology. Currently, the emphasis is on the island of Curaçao and at a later stage it will include St. Eustatius.

My contribution aims to investigate the environmental hydrogeological situation in the Dutch Caribbean: mapping the water quality of groundwater and run-off, identifying key processes that influence water quality, and quantifying different transport routes and pollutant loads from land to sea. This should ultimately lead to developing novel conservation strategies on reducing environmental pressures from land to coral reef ecosystems.
