Transition coordination role Delphi from TNO to TU Delft

Nieuws - 22 november 2019 - Communication ImPhys

The coordination role of the Delphi consortium, headed by Dr. Eric Verschuur, has been officially transferred on November 15th from TNO (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) to TU Delft.

Delphi was established in 1989 as a project within TNO, in the department TPD (“Technisch Physische Dienst”), based on their expertise in handling large international projects with the industry and being housed in the Applied Physics building.
TU Delft has expressed sincere thanks to TNO for all this support and the further role in making all activities for the Delphi consortium a smoothly operating research program. After almost 30 years, Delphi has now been embedded as a Scientific Programme within the faculty of Applied Sciences, under the ImPhys department.

In addition to this transition, a supervisory board has been established consisting of the Deans of Applied Sciences (TNW) and Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CiTG) and one representative of TNO.

Despite this change of coordination role, the Delphi consortium will keep operating as before with its industry-sponsored research in the field of geo-imaging, where Ph.D. and Postdoc projects are funded at various faculties of TU Delft (TNW, CiTG and EWI) and even a few outside TU Delft (Utrecht University and Cyprus Institute).

“It is our ambition to broaden the applications of geo-imaging beyond the exploration and production of fossil fuels, as fits with the overall ambition of the TU Delft to have societal and scientific impact.” says Delphi director Eric Verschuur.

Currently, Delphi funds about 14 Ph.D. and Postdoc projects and is sponsored by 30 companies. TNO will remain involved as one of these members.

“It is our ambition to broaden the applications of geo-imaging beyond the exploration and production of fossil fuels, as fits with the overall ambition of the TU Delft to have societal and scientific impact.” says Delphi director Eric Verschuur.
