IDE bachelor’s student,  Frédérique Valk, is the winner of the PFZW Design Award 2020. With her multi-functional block furniture, Frédérique was able to convince the five-strong jury of the contribution her innovative idea can make to the physical relief of childcare workers.

Within the Bachelor's final project, TU Delft and the SWKGroep, together with fifteen students, sought creative solutions to reduce or even prevent the physical strain in childcare.

The block furniture designed by Frédérique brings the carer and child closer together -  literally as well as figuratively. The multifunctional piece of furniture can be used as a chair, as a device for playing, reading, feeding or tying shoelaces. By bringing the employee closer to the child, the design takes some of the strain out of the daily tasks of the carer and stimulates the toddler’s development.

In the coming period, PFZW, SWKGroep and Frédérique will be working together on the further development of concept. The goal is to have Frédérique's design go into production, so that the furniture can be used at the SKWGroep childcare locations and so that many other childcare organisations can benefit.
