IDE TU Delft to participate in QS Art & Design ranking 2022

News - 11 February 2021 - Communication

Our Delft Design alumni enjoy a good professional reputation with their IDE diploma, not only in the Netherlands but also abroad. To assume our responsibility as a leading design education and research institution and make our reputation more explicit, for the first time IDE has decided to participate in the QS Art & Design rankings for 2022. If you have an opinion about the reputation of IDE and Art & Design schools internationally, find out how you can help.

When it comes to Delft Design, we have built up a reputation for our research and education excellence over the last 50 years. A fact which was confirmed by our recent research assessment, which also challenged Delft Design to take the lead in shaping the narrative of design worldwide. Rankings like QS and Times Higher Education (THE), although certainly not a fully comprehensive way of gauging the research and education quality of an institution, can influence factors like international student recruitment, diploma valuation, collaborations, and even simple Google search results on “design school”.

The QS Art & Design ranking is based on a survey about reputation. It focuses on two elements: reputation in the academic world (90% of total score) and reputation amongst employers (10% of total score). Until the end of March 2021, our national and international peers can now nominate Technische Universiteit Delft (Delft University of Technology), in the Art and Design rankings for next year. It should be noted that the QS Ranking places Arts & Design in the broader subject area of Arts & Humanities (and not in Engineering & Technology where one might expect when thinking of Design at TU Delft).

You can help us increase the reliability of the survey by sharing your opinion:

  • If you are design researcher you can register specifically to receive an invitation to participate in the QS Global Academic Survey. You can also encourage your contacts in other higher academic institutions to do the same. You cannot vote for your own current institution.
  • Employers working with IDE graduates can help by signing up for the QS Global Employer Survey.

Times Higher Education

Times Higher Education (THE) publishes annually a world reputation ranking: a prestigious list featuring the 100 universities with the best reputation worldwide. TU Delft has been in the 51-60 range for years. It is possible that you will receive an invitation to participate in the THE survey, as they rank only on an invitation basis. This is sent from TimesHigherEducation@surveys.elsevier.com, so keep an eye on your mailbox.
