Come and join us on Monday 25 March at 13:30 in the Kuil to see the results of this year’s Design Engineering Contest (DEC). During this exciting contest student teams will fight to build the highest tower using self-built and remote controlled robots. The highest tower wins!
The DEC course, a IDE-BSc elective, focuses on teamwork, allowing students to experience the day-to-day reality of engineering design – complete with team work; and dealing with competition, scarce resources, and limited time.
During the course, groups of students design and build a ‘robot’ that has to perform what appears to be a simple task. Every group will start with an identical toolkit containing electric motors, gearboxes, and a variety of mechanical parts.
All their hard work comes to a climax during the Design Engineering Contest, during which we see who is best at solving the task, while also dealing with a high-paced, competitive environment.
And … like in the real world, anything could happen during the runtime of the course. The robot contest however is not the most important part of the course! Sixty per cent of the students' mark is determined by learnings in team work!
